Upon arrival at Sakara¹, we were given maps and briefed on where to go / what to do. Among that, we were told that there was a light festival going on over the weekend at the Kodaiji Temple 高台寺, somewhere around the Higashiyama District 東山区, and we were just in time for it.

Right after visiting Nijo Castle 二条城 and exploring the Gion District 祇園, we made our way there. The temple lamps were all lighted up and there were all sorts of colourful paper props containing well wishes of all kinds that were hung up on the temple trees. I even saw Anpanman アンパンマン !

On our way back, we also passed through the Yasaka Shrine 八坂神社. Not sure if there was any significance of sorts but the huge row of lighted lamps were a pretty sight.
